This is a Review sent in by Eagles Guest House, "North Hykeham LINCOLN"
We’re running a Guest house made in the 80’s, built as a private house and then converted as a guest house 8 or 9 years ago. We sleep on the ground floor having a guest room over our head separated from it by the traditional chip board on timber and nailed ceiling system.
From a continental point of view I thought I’ve bought a cardboard box property, as our continental houses are built in definite other way.... and being wake up in the middle of the night because it seems that someone is peeing in your ears was something I was not prepared to live for too long.
Once the works to refurbish the guest bedroom were planed, the problem of sound and FIRE proofing had to be resolved. So as we where in big works, we decided to do serious improvements.
Before setting the bathroom we’ve took the existing plaster board off, raised the chip board and prepared the empty walls and floor for a good spray.
The electrician was there and here are a few good advices and interventions to do; If you have a derivation box for a light in the under bedroom for example, better connect it directly. If you have a derivation box that cannot be removed, place it in order to be able to have an access to it and isolate it from the foam with card board box.
All the wires have to run ON a TIMBER on the right of the picture (heat absorption) if they run perpendicularly to the timber isolate them from the foam with a generous roll of cardboard, to let a lot of air around the wire (Pic 395).

Here in the centre cell of the picture a group of 10 wires enter on the first floor from the main board to be dispatched through the house. Better isolate the cell with an adjusted cardboard. A wire drawn in foam loses 50% of its nominal RCD capacity on your main board.
For the vertical Wires it’s the same, better not immerse them in foam. Pic 407 and 414

Keep the heating pipes off the soup it will make future interventions easier. Pic 406

TAKE PICTURES OF ALL WIRES AND PIPES, you'll remember precisely where they are !
Spraying was easy, and I’ve used both of the 2 sets with.... 5 nozzles only! Surprising considering that I haven’t use the petroleum grease because I’ve lost it!!
After spaying the chip boards turned back in place, and a sound proof plaster board was glued on the wall timbers (It’s the nails and the screws that transmit the noises vibrations through a stud wall!!)
Good results soundproof wise and wait for a disaster if you want a fire proof report...
We plan to use froth pack on the series of planned works that will come step by step, on the three or four next years.
