Tips And Guidelines
When you are ready to begin using your Two-Component
foam kit follow these guidelines:

1. Be certain contents of foam containers have been warmed to between 24c to 29c (75 to 85 Deg. F). They need to be at the correct temperature to work properly.

Tips......... place cylinders in an airing cupboard overnight, Leave to stand in hot water for 5-10 minutes or leave in a small room with a fan heater.

Personally I find it best and easiest if possible to stand the foam tanks in hot water by either filling up the bath with hot water or filling up buckets. If the tanks are warm to the touch then this is a good indicator !

2. Agitate the contents of both tanks. Gently rock each tank back and forth for 1 minute or so to ensure that the contents are thoroughly mixed and have not settled in the bottom of the tanks.

3. Inspect the face of the Insta-Gun for dirt and debris. After ensuring that it is clean put a layer of petroleum jelly on the mounting face and attach a new nozzle to the Insta-Gun. (this prevents chemical cross-over and the nozzles adhering to the nozzle)

4. After connecting the appropriate hoses onto the cylinders (red hose to Polyol-Tank and blue hose to ISO-Tank), open the valves on the top of each tank.

5. Once you are ready to begin spraying foam, fire a test shot of material into a disposable container. This will ensure that the material is mixing and dispensing correctly. If everything appears normal begin spraying foam immediately.

6. If spraying stops for more than 30 seconds a new nozzle will need to be used. Failure to do so will cause a blockage and in-correct mixture of foam which may not harden or is brittle and flaky.

7. Check frequently for sudden changes in the colour of the foam, if it either changes Whiter or Dark Yellow/Brown then the nozzle is blocked or worst still the gun/hoses. You want a nice even creamy yellow.

8. Always wear eye and skin protection when spraying foam. Refer to manufacturers complete instructions supplied with kit before use. Safety Starter Kits are available from us.

9. Expanded volume/coverage depends on various factors like chemical and ambient temperature, application mode (spray, injection, pouring), type of nozzle, etc… Indicated values are just an indication and for guidance purpose only ! Please also allow for over-spray.

10. If you are going to re-use a Gun Hose Set with a new set of tanks please check that it is in perfect working order. After connecting the used hoses to the new set of tanks spray a test shot into a plastic bag WITHOUT a nozzle on to check that there are two equal jets of foam coming out of the gun. If all seem fine only then should you click a new nozzle on and resume spraying/injecting. If one jet is stronger than the other then there is a blockage somewhere and the gun hose set needs to be replaced. If you use a blocked or partially blocked gun you will get off-ratio foam. Nozzles are cheaper than buying a new gun set, so I recommend that you buy extra nozzles.

11. If filling into a blind cavity regular test shots should be made to check that product is mixing correctly.

Effects of Temperature

Proper temperature plays a critical role in the performance of any two-component polyurethane foam system, including Froth-Pak SR. Both the liquid chemical temperature and the ambient temperature (i.e. mould temperature) will affect system performance.

The chemical temperature must be stabilized to a temperature above 24° C (75° F). Recommended chemical temperature is 24°C - 29°C (75° - 85°F). If the chemicals are not the proper temperature, then they may dispense in an improper ratio, thereby leading to poor quality foam.
NOTE: It may take from several hours to several days, in the case of the larger systems, for the chemical temperature to reach the proper temperature. This is especially true if the product has been recently shipped or stored in colder temperatures.

For best results, it is advantageous to heat the mould substrate temperature to 27° - 37° C (80° - 100° F), as this will improve both the adhesion of the foam and the flowability of the dispensed chemical. A colder substrate will act as a heat sink, taking away the heat that is generated from the exothermic reaction of the chemicals during cure. This may reduce expansion, flowability and performance.

Chemical Ratio

A ratio is the chemical weight of the "A" component divided by the chemical weight of the "B" component. With any two component polyurethane foam system, if the proper chemical ratio is not maintained, then poor quality foam will result, in addition to a loss of yield.
An "A-rich" mixture may produce foam that is crispy or friable, slower reacting and higher in density.

A "B-rich" mixture will result in softer foam, with possible shrinkage of the cured foam.

The quickest way to periodically check that the proper chemical ratio is being maintained is to dispense the product into a box or paper bag to insure that the reactivity time, appearance and density of the foam is consistent. (See the Technical Data Sheet for specified reactivity and density).
